Google Android strengthened its lead in USA smartphone platform market share

Google Android Pulls Away from Competition comScore announced August 30, 2011 the Google Android smartphone OS now has a larger 41.8% market share for the 3 months ending July 2011. Android is up +5.4%, from a 36.4% market share for the 3 months ending April 2011. Apple iOS was second at 27.0% (+1.0%), followed by RIM 21.7% (-4.0%), Microsoft 5.7% (-1.0%), Symbian 1.9% (-0.4%), and Other 1.9% (-1.0%).

Samsung Leads Manufacturers Samsung continued as the leading mobile device manufacturer with an increased market share of 25.5% for the 3 months ended July 2011. Samsung was up +1.0% from the 24.5% market share for the 3 months ending April 2011. LG was second at 20.9% (0.00%), followed by Motorola 14.1% (-1.5%), Apple 9.5% (+1.2%), RIM 7.6% (-0.6%), and Other 22.4% (-0.1%). Texting Tops Mobile Usage Of the 234 million Americans ages 13+ who used mobile devices for the 3 months ended July 2011, 70.0% used text messaging. This was up +1.2% from 68.8% for the 3 months ending April 2011. Browser usage was second at 41.1% (+2.0%), followed by App usage 40.6% (+2.8%), Social Networking or Blogs access 30.1% (+2.1%), Game Playing 27.8% (+1.6%), and Listening to Music 20.3% (+2.3%).
